To help you get to know Zanele a little better, we asked a few questions about her journey, what motivates her, and what nursing means to her:

What Inspired You To Become A Nurse?

My earliest childhood memory is of bandaging my younger siblings or putting a plaster on them when they got hurt. Caring for others came naturally to me from a young age. As I grew older, I was drawn to nursing as a career because of my empathetic nature and my desire to help people when they need it most

What Is Your Current Position?

I am an Enrolled Nurse

How Many Years Have You Been A Nurse?

I have been a nurse for 25 years and have been qualified as an Enrolled Nurse for 23 years

What Is The Most Rewarding Part Of Your Job?

The most rewarding part of my job is leaving my shift knowing that I have made a positive impact in somebody’s life. Knowing that I have helped my patients feel better, more comfortable, and given them hope is incredibly rewarding. It is also fulfilling to know that I have done my job to the best of my ability

Name One Time I Made You Proud To Be A Nurse.

Being a nurse has equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide quality nursing care. I have been able to use these skills whenever my family members needed care and support the most, which has made me proud to be a nurse

How Do You Keep Motivated During Challenging Times?

I remind myself why I chose nursing in the first place, which was to help people and support them on their journey back to health. Remembering the difference I can make in a patient’s life helps me stay motivated during challenging times.

What Advice Would You Give To Someone Considering Nursing As A Career?

You need to be empathetic towards patients during their time of need and understand that every patient is unique. Each person deserves to be cared for with compassion, dignity, and respect in an environment that is conducive to their healing and recovery
