To help you get to know Nthabeleng a little better, we asked a few questions about her journey, what motivates her, and what nursing means to her:

What Inspired You To Become A Nurse?

“Growing up, I loved watching the Dragon Ball Z animation. There was a character who could heal both emotional and physical pain. I imagined what it would be like to touch someone who was hurting, emotionally or physically and see them healed. That idea resonated with me deeply. That sense of healing and restoration is what inspired me to become a nurse: the ability to bring comfort, hope, and wellness to people when they are vulnerable.”

What Is Your Current Position?

“I am currently a Unit Manager”

How Many Years Have You Been A Nurse?

“Twelve years and counting”

What Is The Most Rewarding Part Of Your Job?

“Continuing Christ’s ministry, offering healing and support to our community, and most importantly, having the opportunity to add value to each patient and colleague I interact with.”

Name One Time I Made You Proud To Be A Nurse.

“There was one occasion when a colleague (now a close friend) and I helped deliver a baby for a mother at 28 weeks, in a primary healthcare clinic that had no MOU. The paediatrician declared that the baby was not for resuscitation, that he would not survive. Despite that, we resuscitated him, even as our fingers went numb and we were drenched in sweat by the time EMS arrived. The baby survived. I later saw him return to the same clinic for his immunizations. That moment giving a fragile life a fighting chance, made me proud to be a nurse.”

How Do You Keep Motivated During Challenging Times?

“I remind myself that I’m never alone, I do my best and let God handle the rest. I focus on living in the present, because many of our struggle’s stem from past wounds or future worries. Staying grounded in today helps prevent unnecessary guilt or anxiety. I also believe every situation I face has purpose, even if I don’t understand it in the moment”

What Advice Would You Give To Someone Considering Nursing As A Career?

“Compassion is key, not only towards patients, but also towards your colleagues.”
