Main Purpose of Job:

 

The company is seeking an experienced and driven Product Manager to lead our Neuro Portfolio across South Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing a national team of representatives, managing supplier relationships, growing market share, and ensuring the effective implementation of strategic sales and marketing initiatives. This role requires in-depth clinical and commercial understanding of the neurosurgical device landscape and the ability to drive both team and portfolio performance.

 

Requirements:

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Life Sciences
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the medical device industry, preferably within the neuro or surgical portfolio
  • Proven track record of sales achievement and team leadership
  • Strong clinical knowledge of neurosurgical procedures and products
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
  • Excellent analytical, planning, and organizational skills

  • Existing relationships with key neurosurgical stakeholders in South Africa will be an advantage

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Sales & Business Development

  • Manage and support a national team of sales representatives, providing coaching, training, and regular performance evaluations
  • Monitor and drive achievement of sales targets across regions
  • Attend theatre cases to provide technical support and product knowledge to clinicians and theatre staff
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), surgeons, hospitals, and procurement teams
  • Conduct regular field visits to support representatives and strengthen customer relationships

 

Product & Portfolio Management

  • Act as the product expert for the neuro portfolio, ensuring in-depth understanding of product capabilities, competitive positioning, and clinical applications
  • Lead the introduction of new products to the South African market, including registration, training, and launch strategies
  • Liaise with suppliers regarding product availability, technical updates, pricing strategies, and marketing materials
  • Stay abreast of market trends, technological advancements, and competitor activities in the neuro space

 

Training & Team Development

  • Provide ongoing training and mentorship to representatives, ensuring consistent clinical and technical competency
  • Develop training tools, support materials, and internal knowledge-sharing systems
  • Coordinate regular team meetings, product updates, and performance reviews

 

Marketing & Congresses

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop marketing strategies, tools, and campaigns tailored to the neuro segment
  • Provide feedback on what is required from marketing to support sales efforts
  • Attend relevant local and international congresses, conferences, and workshops, representing the company and supporting the team’s engagement with clients and suppliers

 

Regulatory & Operational Support

  • Assist with the registration and regulatory compliance of new neuro products with relevant South African authorities
  • Ensure all promotional activities comply with ethical marketing practices and relevant medical device regulations
  • Maintain accurate and timely reporting of sales data, activities, forecasts, and market intelligence
