Job Description
Market Research and Analysis:
- Conduct in-depth market research to identify emerging trends, market needs, and competitive dynamics.
- Provide insights on business opportunities and threats in the South African pharmaceutical market.
Strategy Development:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to define business development strategies and set goals aligned with company objectives in the region.
Partnership & Relationship Management:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with healthcare professionals, distributors, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Foster collaborations with local and international pharmaceutical companies to drive growth.
Product Portfolio Expansion:
- Identify and pursue opportunities for the introduction of new products or the expansion of existing products in South Africa.
- Develop market entry strategies for new products in line with regulatory standards.
Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge:
- Ensure that all business development initiatives comply with local and international regulatory standards in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Work with regulatory teams to ensure smooth product registration and market access.
Sales and Revenue Growth:
- Develop strategies to drive sales, manage key accounts, and achieve revenue targets.
- Utilise market insights to increase market share and meet company sales objectives.
Negotiations and Contract Management:
- Lead and manage negotiations for partnerships, joint ventures, and collaborations.
- Oversee contract development and manage agreements with partners, distributors, and stakeholders.
Marketing and Brand Promotion:
- Work closely with marketing teams to create awareness and promote the company products.
- Support in designing campaigns that align with regional market needs and expectations.
Reporting and Forecasting:
- Provide regular reports and forecasts to senior management on business development activities, sales progress, and market trends.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree (MBA) or equivalent advanced qualification is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in business development, sales, or marketing within the pharmaceutical or healthcare sector.
- Proven track record in establishing and managing business relationships in South Africa or the Southern African region.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards in the South African pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience in managing cross-functional teams and driving projects in a corporate environment.
Skills:
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.

- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret market data.
- Knowledge of product life cycles and the pharmaceutical market in South Africa.
