Main Purpose of Job:
The Theatre Assistant plays a critical support role within the surgical environment by ensuring seamless theatre support, accurate documentation, efficient product logistics, and strong professional relationships with hospital and theatre staff. The role supports the sales team during surgical procedures and contributes to optimal case execution and customer satisfaction.
Requirements:
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification (clinical, medical, science, business, or related field preferred)
Experience
- 1–3 years of related experience within a healthcare, medical device, clinical, or sales-support environment preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of medical devices and surgical environments (advantageous)
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
- High level of professionalism and ability to work in high-pressure theatre environments
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with clinical staff
- Strong administrative skills and accuracy in documentation
- Tech-savvy, with the ability to complete digital and physical documentation reliably
Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport
- Fluent in English (written and verbal)
- Willingness to travel between hospital sites
- Flexibility to work variable hours aligned to surgical schedules, including after-hours and weekends
Duties & Responsibilities:
Theatre & Case Support
- Attend scheduled surgical procedures to support theatre cases alongside the sales team
- Ensure all required surgical sets, implants, and instruments are prepared, complete, and available prior to each case
- Provide real-time logistical support in theatre to ensure efficient case flow
- Participate in a rotational after-hours and weekend on-call schedule based on surgical requirements
Product Knowledge & Commercial Support
- Develop and maintain strong working knowledge of the company’s product portfolio
- Professionally demonstrate product value and support clinical discussions with surgeons and theatre staff
- Identify potential upselling or additional product opportunities during theatre interactions and communicate these to the sales team
Delivery, Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately complete delivery notes and all associated documentation for consignment and loan sets
- Ensure full compliance with hospital protocols and internal company documentation procedures
- Maintain accurate records to support traceability and audit requirements
Stock & Asset Management
- Assist with the transport, delivery, and return of surgical sets between company premises and hospital sites
- Perform monthly consignment stock checks in accordance with company policies and procedures
- Report discrepancies, shortages, or damages to the relevant internal stakeholders
Sales & Customer Support
- Provide ad hoc field support to sales representatives, including follow-ups on hospital or customer requests
- Act as a professional and reliable point of contact between the company and healthcare professionals
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with surgeons, nurses, and theatre personnel
