Technical Service Assistant – Paint & Waterproofing – Cape Town

JOB PURPOSE

The candidate will be reporting to the Sales Department and will work closely with the sales team to provide technical support and backup

The candidate will conduct on-site quality assurance to ensure that the trade adheres to the company specifications

FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

To support the sales team in a complex environment by providing the necessary technical back up and service to customers, internal sales staff and industry stakeholders

Support the sales team with writing paint specifications

Conduct on-site quality assurance for guarantee and quality purposes

Verifying 3rd party quality assurance reports for quality and guarantee purposes

Handling and feedback of technical and customer related complaints. On site and internal

Guide and verify the on-site tender and adjudication process of sales personnel

Handling the trade and online retail guarantee process

Develop skills to eventually conduct on site and internal training programs for clients and internal sales staff.

Position may require assistance with product verification and application, following new product development or improvement by Research & Development

Maintain good professional relationships with all industry stakeholders when on site

Conduct site visits, quality control and compile related technical reports

Provide colour guidance and technical advice to customers

 

REQUIREMENTS

Matric / Grade 12

Practical and technical experience relevant to the paint and building industry – advantageous

Exposure to building contracts management – advantageous

Exposure to the sales process of paint within the trade sector – advantageous

 

Competencies Required:

Must have the will to develop a strong technical knowledge of industry practices and terminology

Must develop a passion for the technical aspects of the construction and paint related industry and develop a basic understanding of the chemical make-up of paint

Must be pragmatic and hands-on in order to develop a practical understanding of the paint application process

Within a short period of time be competent with the use of all quality assurance instrumentation related to on site testing

Must quickly develop the skills to gather on site technical information with regards to the aspects of paint failure and the application process

Must be fully competent in written communication skills to develop the skills to compile professional technical site reports

Must have the leadership skills and verbal communication skills to eventually handle conflict and stressful situations when dealing with customer complaints

Need to have the emotional intelligence to adapt and deal with different personality types and resolve conflict

The person must be service driven and complement our growing sales team

Must be a team player and willing to work together with colleagues and support staff

Honesty, integrity and punctuality is crucial for success

Computer literacy and proper working knowledge of MS Office computer packages

Must be competent with the mathematical skills required within the industry

Hands-on approach to problem solving
