Settlements Manager (Financial Firm) – Cape Town

The Settlements Manager sits within Operations department and reports directly to the Head of Operations

This role also works closely with the Corporate Actions & Events and Banking & Cash Settlements teams

This role is responsible for managing the Settlements team (Securities & Non- Cash) to ensure correct and effective settlement of all securities and non-cash settlements

This role is also responsible to ensure mitigating risk of erroneous capturing and processing of all Settlements

Key Performance Areas will include but not limited to:

  • Ensuring to process all investments and redemptions into funds, fund of funds, etc.
  • Ensuring to develop a process for all new products, services and relationships
  • Ensuring team adhere to JSE regulations, Companies Act, the FMA and STRATE rules
  • Identify areas of risk and ensure that proper controls are in place to eliminate / minimize risks and losses
  • Ensuring to action and control all aspects relating to funds and non-cash settlements
  • Ensuring a cost effective and efficient service is provided to all clients (internal/external) and that it is in line with clients Service Level Agreements/Special standing instructions
  • Management of all daily resolution of any settlement exception or discrepancy
  • Management to ensure team maintains frequent interaction with depositories and counter parties to be able to respond effectively to problems with trade settlements to avoid fails
  • Resolution of problems associated with settlement activity and escalate issues/concerns to Head of Operations
  • Management of all monthly reporting requirements
  • Managing a small settlements team (day-to-day management of responsibilities, as well as performance management, leave approvals, etc)
  • Ensuring coverage of team members for the core tasks of the settlements function (some tasks may need coverage outside of SA business hours)
  • Other Ad hoc tasks relevant to the role

Job-Related Skills & Education

  • Tertiary qualification
  • 5+ years’ experience in Settlements
  • 3+ years’ experience in a Settlements managerial role
  • Proficient in MS Office with proficiency in MS Excel
  • Knowledge of Strate, JSE and international markets in respect of settlements
  • Core Technical Skills
  • Must be proficient in gathering and analysing business requirements and data while applying problem solving techniques
  • Able to work well independently and in a team
  • Able to manage various tasks simultaneously, being excellent at efficient prioritizing
