Requirements:

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
• Post basic qualification in ICU will be beneficial
• 6-month short learning program in ICU
• 2-3 years management or supervisor / shift leading experience in ICU will be advantageous
• Clinical knowledge of ICU essential
• Computer literacy
• Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation
• Flexible n working hours/shifts

The main purpose of this position:

The role of a Senior Professional Nurse is to function as a competent clinical practitioner within their designated clinical area and to deliver direct patient care whilst co-ordinating and overseeing the nursing/ICU practice

To deputise for the ICU Manager in his / her absence, driving forward evidence-based practise and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within their clinical area

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities
• In conjunction with the Unit Manager be responsible for the day-today supervision of ICU teams, effectively motivating, and directing staff to ensure that time and resources are managed through effective teamwork
• To deputise for the Unit Manager when necessary
• To assist the Unit Manager in the management of staff within their unit including specific induction, recruitment and selection, training, performance management, sickness / absence appraisals
• Ensure the continuous training takes place in ICU
