Product Manager (Medical Devices) – Johannesburg

The main purpose of this position is:

To effectively manage a sales team to sell specialised surgical instruments and power systems to new and existing business accounts

Build and maintain strong working relationships with KOL’s and hospital personnel to maximise sales growth

To ensure that the company is optimally positioned as a key preferred supplier within the surgical instrument and power system space

Responsible for developing, measuring and implementation and execution of the sales and marketing strategy, by working with the sales teams, resulting in achieving and exceeding both sales and profitability goals for the Surgical Technologies and Power system portfolios which includes the following product ranges: Surgical Instruments, Storage solutions, a Laparoscopic portfolio and Power system portfolio

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Customer Relations:

  • Establish a network with the key stakeholders in the Hospitals: Hospital Managers, Matrons, unit managers, CSSD staff and Key Opinion Leaders in your product and marketing capacity
  • Build and maintain strong relations with all stakeholders, including customers, payers, government, and employees, in representing our full line of products and services
  • Attending key appointments with Sales Consultants when needed with existing and potential customers. Successful congresses and training workshops
  • Identify the correct customers to attend product training
  • Maintain good relations and communication with internal customers, i.e. Customer Services, Finance Department, Logistics and Management
  • Customer profiling and mapping tools to grow product families according to customer need but in line with our business strategy and focus products

 

Market Access Process:

Responsible for product registration processes, including:

  • Nappi coding
  • Funding approval from all Medical aids
  • Registration and approval with Hospital Groups
  • Fulfil all tender requirements

 

Budget Management & Administration:

  • Monitor Sales turnover. Achieve monthly and quarterly sales budgets
  • Achieve annual sales budgets per
  • Expense claims handed in on time with correct cost allocations
  • Monthly reports
  • Compliance with regulatory SOP’s, SA Regulations and Code of Business Ethics

 

Marketing:

  • Ensuring that the finalisation of the yearly strategic plans is done on time
  • Assist with the Sales budgeting per territory for each portfolio
  • Effective marketing activities, including congresses and customer workshops and educational events
  • Monthly in field visits with Sales Consultants – 2 day per week in the field
  • Product training done and evaluation of knowledge of Sales Consultants for effective selling of product features and benefits
  • Evaluation, analyses and report on competitors’ products, strategies and driving appropriate business responses
  • Reporting marketing growth opportunities
  • Analysing customer base together with Sales Teams
  • Maintain key account tracker
  • Identification and development of new business opportunities

 

Administrative Duties:

  • Adhere to credit policies and procedures
  • Maintain all administrative responsibilities associated with this position
  • Monthly report on sales and marketing activities
  • Adhere to any legal or medical requirements and inform management of changed requirements
  • Report on variance between actual, budget, and implement corrective strategies

 

Stock Management:

  • This entails managing the stock monthly and stay within directed ratios
  • Stock rotation and slow-moving identification and returns
  • Manage stock ordering process weekly
  • Accurate forecasting in stock
  • Management and approval of consignment stock allocated to customers on request from Sales Consultants

 

Training:

  • Maintain a high level of motivation to ensure sales and marketing function is well directed
  • Preparation and conducting of presentations at Sales Consultants meeting and management meetings
  • Assist Sales Consultants with product queries and/or technical/clinical application information
  • Manage your portfolio by living the company values
  • Identify and implement educational events for customers to achieve growth
  • Manage the implementation of workshop activities with the sales team and customers
  • Train new customers on the divisions range of products. Identify workshops and educational events that will cause product growth
  • Take part in company business and sales meetings and provide input to senior management concerning outcome on all training events
  • Attend and responsible for planning of all congresses identified
  • Quarterly visits with top 20 clients

 

Requirements:

  • A business/marketing degree and or nursing qualification would be a definite advantage
  • Previous Marketing or Product Manager Experience managing a portfolio in Medical Devices
  • Medical Background is a requirement
  • Knowledge of capital equipment sales and networks with role players and industry an advantage
  • Extensive knowledge of surgical instruments, laparoscopic and power systems portfolios
  • Existing relationships within the Medical Device Capex Customer base will be a definite advantage
  • At least 5 years’ experience at management level
