Operational Analyst – Cape Town

The Operations team takes responsibility for a wide variety of processes and ad hoc tasks related to implementation and maintenance of the private share portfolios

 

FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Open new investment accounts at various third party suppliers
  • Confirm that the client’s details has been recorded correctly
  • Ensure timely and correct investment of and disinvestment from share portfolios. Check that the Trading Desk as per instruction has placed trades correctly
  • Ensure valid base costs are recorded on share transfers in and rolled over where applicable
  • Manage the client details on the portfolio management system
  • Capture and maintain client details
  • Link each portfolio/account on the portfolio management system to a Tyrus client number
  • Ensure the client’s preference regarding dividend payout or reinvestment is set up correctly
  • Ensure the client’s communication preferences regarding broker notes and statements are set up correctly
  • Ensure all restrictions regarding the trading of shares (e.g. for directors, employees, etc.) are captured (loaded on each portfolio not per client)
  • Ensure quality of data through periodic clean-up projects
  • Generate a username and password and link the client on the website
  • Monitor and manage the workflow system and ensure each instruction is executed within a specific timeframe with utmost attention to details and care
  • Address queries from Advisors and or Advisory Assistants
  • Account for client loans against share portfolios
  • Liaise externally with third party service providers
  • Liaise internally with members of the Trading Desks and fellow operational teams
  • Processing of corporate actions timeously with high level of attention to detail
  • Perform daily custody and cash recons
  • Assist in the preparation of provisional and final tax certificates
  • Assist in preparing annual submissions to the IRS
  • Manage the DWT reclaim process where clients are charged DWT in excess of SA rates
  • Perform various ad hoc projects and tasks related to private client security portfolios

REQUIREMENTS

Qualification Skills & Characteristics Required

  • National Senior Certificate with relevant subjects and above average grades
  • Undergraduate degree – B-comm or relevant qualification with a minimum of three years’ experience in an operational environment in the financial services industry
  • Good knowledge of financial markets and instruments – in particular local and international shares, funds, bonds, CFD’s, futures and money market instruments
  • Prior experience dealing with corporate actions required
  • Ability to perform daily custody recons and investigate where breaks occur
  • Process driven and analytical
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to problem solve and recommend solutions
  • Excellent time management and commitment to SLA’s
  • Good planning and Organizational skills
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • The ability to perform in a demanding team and able to work under pressure
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual and part of a team

 

Competency Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, with exceptional Excel skills
  • Working knowledge of portfolio management, accounting and workflow systems would be beneficial
  • Prior experience working on Advent Geneva would be advantageous
  • Good knowledge of the direct equity and other instrument types
  • Perform duties with responsibility, due care and diligence
  • Perform multi-functional duties, be proactive and innovative
