Medical Sales Representative


 A career opportunity exists for an Area Sales Executive in the Eastern Cape (Port Elizabeth)

The representative will cover Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas as well as the Garden Route

Portfolio includes Critical Care and Nutrition with in the Hospital Care Division.



Sales & Customer Relationship Management

Strive to meet and exceed sales budgets as set by the Company

Provide supportive services to all allocated customers in assigned geographical areas

Promote and sell the company’s products to all allocated customers as per defined strategies within assigned geographical areas

Develop strong professional relationships with all the customers in the assigned geographical area

Strive to deliver excellent service throughout the customer’s business dealings

Attend industry symposiums, congresses and conferences (this includes functions scheduled during evenings and over weekends)

Territory Management

Develop an area plan based on the division’s strategy – ensuring strategic customers and products are included

Plan area coverage (country trip included where required) and ensure customers are called on based on the ratings as allocated on the relevant reporting system

Complete monthly sales analysis document and be well prepared for monthly area discussions


Pre-planning completed on the reporting system 1 week in advance

Pre-call planning to be completed prior to each call and must include call objectives, feedback required from previous call, etc.

Ensure planning covers minimum requirements for strategic customers per week


Close all calls on reporting system immediately after the call is completed – ensure GPS is activated

Conduct post-call analysis after each call – Record notes on reporting system ensuring it is of strategic relevance and includes follow up items for the next call

Report on all relevant market information: changes in customer requirements, competitor activities, complaints, etc.

Product & Concept Knowledge

Ensure product and concept knowledge ( Critical Care and Nutrition ) is up to date at all times

Ensure knowledge of competitor products and relevant guidelines are updated regularly

Ensure knowledge of selling techniques is refined and updated regularly

Attend presentations during industry conferences, congresses and symposiums

Ensure knowledge of clinical data is up to date at all times – incorporate publications and articles during daily sales calls

Tests based on product and concept knowledge will be written quarterly and pass rate of 80% must be met

Marketing Material & Samples

Ensure samples and marketing material is in a pristine and presentable condition at all times

Optimize the impact of marketing material and ensure such material is utilized to increase business

All banners must be booked prior to use and must be returned in a clean, workable condition

Training Requirements

The Company’s Code of Conduct

Ensure all actions also adheres to the relevant governing body’s code of conduct

Training as per Departmental Training Matrix

Customer Training

Identify customer training needs and plan training sessions accordingly

Ensure that regular in-service training programs and workshops are held to keep the customer knowledgeable about the company’s products

Keep training records of all training events

Other Requirements

Ensure any Product Quality Defect or Product Complaint is immediately reported to the Quality Assurance Department

Immediately report any defects in the building, equipment or any other safety concern to the relevant manager

To display a customer centric view at all times must be ensured

Attend to any other requests by management

Ensure adherence to all Statutory and legal requirements applicable to all activities within the company and in South Africa.

Attend meetings at the office or via Skype as per management requirement

Complete additional tasks and assignments within the timeframe set out by management

Representatives must be available for customer queries at all times within reason.  Voicemail must be activated on phone

Data management – cell phone airtime and data is allocated for business use and must be managed accordingly

Requests for leave must be submitted 2 weeks prior and discussed with management

All other policies and procedure of the company must be adhered to

From time to time Management will require you to perform tasks outside of the abovementioned Job Description



Dietetics Degree

Minimum of 2-3 years’ Sales Experience within the Medical Field – Preferable

Excellent Communication Skills

Computer Literate

Existing Relationships with clients in the area – Preferable

Valid Driver’s License
