Assistant Technical Manager – Utilities Solutions – Southern Suburbs – Cape Town


Our client is looking for an experienced and professional Assistant Technical Manager to join their Utility Solutions team

The successful candidate will provide high level assistance, management, expertise and technical support for the overall utility operations and special power related projects

The incumbent will report to the HOD for the Electrical Division



Substation Management:

Monthly routine inspections of substations, transformers, main LV boards and power factor control of buildings assigned to

Monthly thermal imaging of inspected transformers

Monthly reporting of substation inspections

Maintain schedule for annual services of transformers, PFC, etc.

Arrange annual services when due

Arrange for adhoc repairs when necessary.

Oversee all repairs and maintenance

Obtain necessary quotations for service, repairs, etc.


Energy & Utility Management:

Energy Audits

Tariff structure analysis

Metering and verification

Analysis and Reconciliation of monthly utility charges and recoveries

Investigate irregularities and report on finding

Monthly Utility management report

Energy efficient investigations and recommendations


UPS and Back-Up Power Solutions:

Investigate site / premises

Propose backup solution

Liaise with suppliers, contractors, etc.

Source quotes and provide costing and proposal to customers

Project management of installation

Initial setup and configurations of backup solution

Monitor the company ups sites

Maintain schedule for routine servicing of the larger UPS’s

Arrange services when due

Arrange for adhoc repairs when necessary


Pre-paid Electricity & Water Meter System:

Prepaid electricity & water meter registration and allocation

Generating prepaid tokens on request

Assisting with meter “move out” of “Move in” when requested

Extracting various prepaid reports from the system

Issuing replacement tokens

Generating Key change tokens


Landis Gyr Map 110 & Map 120 Administration:

Register and set up meters on Map 110 system to enable remote reading

Configure Meters and communication modules with Map 120 software

Install and enable communication to the meters for remote access from Map 110

Download data, load profiles, etc from Landis +Gyr meters

Map 110 – interpret load profile and calculate consumption

Check meter configuration


Technical Support:

Attend to prepaid electricity meter faults

General investigations on site to assist with utility queries

Assist meter readers on site when required

Site investigations and reporting for new building utility services

CoCT meter investigations and updating of CoCT invoices with correct information

Assisting retirement villages with electricity issues, pool heating system, geyser issues, heat pumps, etc.

Providing electrical BOQ for special projects

Sourcing alternative comparative quotes

Job monitoring and completion inspections

Attend to customer queries, emails, etc.

Support other operational staff





Technical Diploma (N6) or higher


Experience & Knowledge:

Relevant experience in a similar role

Technical / Electrical background – Energy Management experience is an advantage
