About the Job:
The Unit Manager (Intensive Care Unit) is responsible for the clinical, operational, and people management of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill patients requiring advanced monitoring and life-support interventions.
The Unit Manager leads the ICU nursing team, ensures effective utilisation of resources, maintains compliance with clinical and regulatory standards, and drives continuous improvement in patient outcomes, staff performance, and patient experience
Requirements:
Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
Post-basic qualification in Critical Care Nursing essential
Post-basic qualification in Nursing Administration or Management advantageous
Minimum of 5 years’ nursing experience, with at least 2–3 years in an ICU leadership or unit management role
Sound knowledge of critical care principles, mechanical ventilation, haemodynamic monitoring, infection prevention and control, and emergency procedures
Experience in staff management, quality improvement, resource management, and operational planning
Computer literacy and familiarity with hospital information systems
