Registered Nurse – Psychiatric/Wellness – Wellness Facility – Eastern Cape

About the Job:

A registered wellness facility is seeking a suitably qualified and SANC-registered nurse to oversee the nursing, medication-management and medical-administration requirements of our registered wellness facility.

The successful candidate must be appropriately registered and competent within their scope of practice to manage and administer prescribed medication, maintain accurate medication records, and oversee general medication control within the facility

Requirements:

• Appropriate nursing qualification and current SANC registration
• Relevant SANC category and scope of practice permitting the required medication administration and medication-management responsibilities
• Strong medication-management and record-keeping skills
• Ability to communicate confidently with doctors, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals
• Computer literacy, preferably including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
• Strong organisational, administrative and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and take responsibility for medical systems and compliance
• Preferred experience: Experience in a rehabilitation centre, psychiatric facility, mental-health environment or other residential healthcare setting would be highly advantageous, particularly experience working with pharmacy-prepacked medication

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Administer and manage prescribed medication in accordance with relevant legislation, prescriptions and facility procedures
• Maintain accurate medication administration records and client medical files
• Liaise with doctors, psychiatrists, pharmacies and other healthcare professionals telephonically, verbally and in writing
• Conduct medical intakes, general health enquiries and basic nursing assessments within scope of practice
• Monitor client health concerns and escalate appropriately
• Manage pharmacy-prepacked medication, prescriptions, medication changes, stock and storage
• Maintain and oversee the facility’s medical room and medical supplies
• Supervise and support an auxiliary nurse and liaise with qualified carers and other staff
• Assist in maintaining appropriate medical and nursing compliance with requirements of the Department of Health, Department of Social Development, SANC and other relevant regulatory bodies
• Ensure medical documentation and systems remain accurate, organised and inspection-ready
• Identify and recommend improvements to medical, nursing and compliance procedures
