Introduction

Provide strong strategic, professional, and managerial leadership across all aspects of health service operations at the Hospital.

Implement the operational strategy by monitoring and managing performance and overseeing the delivery of effective facilities management services at the Hospital. Hold authority and accountability for the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of day-to-day clinical services and departmental performance at the Hospital

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and implementation of the Hospital’s strategic operational plan, in alignment with the overarching the Group strategy
  • Support the Hospital in achieving all its objectives and actively participate as a member of the management team, taking collective responsibility for corporate governance
  • Develop and maintain key working relationships with the Group General Manager, CFO, members of the Group
  • Executive, as well as external healthcare providers, to ensure an integrated and seamless patient experience for both scheduled and unscheduled care
  • Ensure that appropriate management systems are in place to anticipate, identify, and manage opportunities and challenges in service delivery
  • Ensure that all clinical support services meet Hospital requirements and remain fully fit for purpose at all times
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with existing and new customers to establish and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships
  • Investigate specialist doctor opportunities within the Hospital and source new specialists as required
  • Develop and implement a hospital growth strategy focused on attracting new doctors and specialists
  • Investigate economic conditions affecting business activity, including industry trends, competition, and relevant legislative and regulatory factors within the healthcare sector
  • Identify marketing opportunities by analysing customer requirements, defining market segments, assessing competitor market share, strengths, and weaknesses, forecasting business projections, and establishing targeted market share goals
  • Understand brand strategies and develop and execute targeted initiatives to build brand loyalty and showcase the Group value proposition
  • Prepare, manage, and apply forecasting and operational budgets effectively
  • Assess the relative cost-benefits of direct service provision versus the procurement of external services for the Hospital
  • Promote and demonstrate the importance of sound financial management and its impact on organisational effectiveness
  • Liaise with the HR Department regarding transformation initiatives and provide strategic leadership to foster a culture of inclusivity
  • Create and maintain a positive working environment where diversity is recognised, understood, and valued, enabling all individuals to reach their full potential and maximise their contributions
  • Work closely with the Group General Manager and Group Heads to organise and ensure the implementation of all Group policies, procedures, and requirements relevant to Hospital services
  • Operate within Group procedures, guidelines, and HOD frameworks to deliver high-quality hard and soft facilities management services that support a safe and welcoming environment for patients and service users
  • Ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of all capital projects, ensuring compliance with statutory and mandatory requirements and alignment with overall service and strategic objectives
  • Work closely with the Group General Manager and Group Heads to organise and ensure the implementation of all Group policies, procedures, and requirements relevant to services within the Hospital
  • Review and evaluate existing Hospital and nursing policies, procedures, and work methods through periodic and special studies, and direct the implementation of approved work methods and procedures to ensure the achievement of organisational objectives
  • Consult and collaborate with physicians, clinical departments, and service lines in the development and implementation of policies, standards, procedures, and quality outcomes for patient care
  • Demonstrate effective leadership by setting, modelling, and encouraging high standards of patient care and professional conduct across the Hospital
  • In collaboration with the HR Department, support and encourage Hospital staff in their personal and professional development through appraisal and supervision processes, including setting objectives, evaluating performance, and identifying training and development needs
  • Liaise with the HR Department on transformation initiatives and provide strategic leadership in fostering a culture of inclusivity
  • Create and maintain a positive working environment where diversity is recognised, understood, and valued, enabling all individuals to reach their full potential and maximise their contributions

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 – 10 years’ experience in the Healthcare sector
  • Minimum of 5 years’ progressive leadership experience as a senior Manager within a Healthcare environment
  • Minimum diploma or degree (at least NQF Level 7 or equivalent) preferably in business or health services management/ relevant to health service sector
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification/ MBA preferable in relevant field preferred
  • Experience of clinical and/or corporate governance
  • Experience in project management
  • Facilities management
  • Financial management

Skills (Practical & Technical)

  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of current issues, developments, and best practices in Hospital policy and health service delivery
  • Significant knowledge of the healthcare sector, with experience operating in a senior management role
  • Proven record of service innovation and influential leadership
  • Demonstrated effective leadership in complex and challenging environments
  • Strong aptitude for strategic thinking, supported by leadership skills and the ability to motivate and lead specialist professionals
  • Clear focus on operational performance and results, with a sound understanding of the performance management systems required to operate within a large, complex organisation
  • High level of self-sufficiency, with the ability to proactively drive initiatives, recommend informed decisions, suggest continuous improvements, and adapt readily to change
