Our client, a Pharmaceutical Company, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Business Development Manager to drive and expand our market presence in South Africa. The role is focused on identifying new business opportunities, building partnerships, and expanding the product portfolio within the pharmaceutical sector. The Business Development Manager will play a pivotal role in contributing to the company’s growth and ensuring the company’s strategic objectives are met.

Job Description

Market Research and Analysis:

• Conduct in-depth market research to identify emerging trends, market needs, and competitive dynamics.
• Provide insights on business opportunities and threats in the South African pharmaceutical market.

Strategy Development:

• Collaborate with senior leadership to define business development strategies and set goals aligned with company objectives in the region.

Partnership & Relationship Management:

• Establish and maintain strong relationships with healthcare professionals, distributors, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.
• Foster collaborations with local and international pharmaceutical companies to drive growth.

Product Portfolio Expansion:

• Identify and pursue opportunities for the introduction of new products or the expansion of existing products in South Africa.
• Develop market entry strategies for new products in line with regulatory standards.

Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge:

• Ensure that all business development initiatives comply with local and international regulatory standards in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Work with regulatory teams to ensure smooth product registration and market access.

Sales and Revenue Growth:

• Develop strategies to drive sales, manage key accounts, and achieve revenue targets.
• Utilise market insights to increase market share and meet company sales objectives.

Negotiations and Contract Management:

• Lead and manage negotiations for partnerships, joint ventures, and collaborations.
• Oversee contract development and manage agreements with partners, distributors, and stakeholders.

Marketing and Brand Promotion:

• Work closely with marketing teams to create awareness and promote the company products.
• Support in designing campaigns that align with regional market needs and expectations.

Reporting and Forecasting:

• Provide regular reports and forecasts to senior management on business development activities, sales progress, and market trends.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, or a related field.
• A Master’s degree (MBA) or equivalent advanced qualification is preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in business development, sales, or marketing within the pharmaceutical or healthcare sector.
• Proven track record in establishing and managing business relationships in South Africa or the Southern African region.
• Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards in the South African pharmaceutical industry.
• Experience in managing cross-functional teams and driving projects in a corporate environment.

Skills:

• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Strategic thinking with the ability to identify new business opportunities.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret market data.
• Knowledge of product life cycles and the pharmaceutical market in South Africa.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Fluent in English (knowledge of additional South African languages is an advantage).
