How to create a CV that gets you a Job

Looking for work is a competitive process, so you need to make sure your CV is up to the task of putting you ahead of the pack

“A CV is a document that represents your skills, experiences, qualifications, achievements and knowledge to potential employers and hiring managers. The aim is to help you secure an interview, which is usually the first gate you must pass in securing a job,” says organisational psychologist Phiona Martin

She Advises:

  • Have clear headings on your CV to make it easy for the reader to go through the sections and navigate your CV easily
  • Your experience should be written In reverse chronology, so your most recent experience is first
  • The most impressive information about your career should be on the first page, so grab the reader’s attention
  • Do not include biographical information such as marital status or religion
  • It is a crime in SA to lie, exaggerate or misrepresent any of your experience in your CV –do not do it ever
