Job Overview

The main purpose of this position:

 

The Infection Control Coordinator will be responsible to plan, develop and implement an infection control programme for the hospital using infection control standards and international best practice

 

Requirements:

 

  • A relevant nursing qualification (B Cur Degree/ or relevant management qualification)
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
  • Compliance with the SANC code for a Registered Nurse and all applicable health care legislations
  • Compulsory BLS certification
  • Clinical Expertise within your speciality
  • Advanced Computer Literacy
  • Excellent IPC knowledge
  • Post basic qualification in IPC will be an advantage

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Aid and assist all hospital employees in managing the prevention, identification and control of infections in patients and employees
  • Plan, develop and implement an infection control program in keeping with the updated infection control standards
  • Notify the Department of Health timeously of diseases where applicable
  • Organize regular infection control and health and safety committee meetings and document the proceedings
  • Maintain an up to date infection control file that is available and accessible to all nursing and house-keeping staff
  • Ensure the adherence / supervision of protective clothing for all employees and members of the public when needed
